A 16-year old girl has been burnt burnt beyond recognition by her husband at Shimbir Fatume in Mandera South. Khadija who was forced into marriage in 2014 has been admitted at the Mandera General hospital with serious burns.
Her husband, Sharif Issack Abdulla beat her unconscious then burnt her using charcoal from a fire on January 7,2015.
Mandera Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chair Ubah Abdi said she was discovered after a source close to the family contacted one of the organisation's officials.
Khadija's chest and right hand are completely burnt off. Still traumatized, she couldn't say a word to journalists and broke into tears.
Doctors said she urgently needs reconstructive surgery stating that the procedure will very expensive.
The hospital said it cannot airlift Khadija to Nairobi for further treatment as she is a minor and does not have the required documentation.
Mandera County Commisioner Alex Ole Nkoyo termed the ordeal as inhumane saying that the husband who has since disappeared will be brought to book.
Nkoyo added that the area Chief and his Assistant also be arrested as they failed to report the matter. He said they may have conspired with the family to hid the crime.
