Hussein Weheliye Irfo told reporters that gunmen opened fire on his car as he drove through Mogadishu after a car bomb blast outside a shopping centre on the Maka al Mukarama road which killed at least three people.

Mr. Irfo has sustained injuries from the drive-by shooting, a favourite tactic by militants who killed several including, mostly legislators in similar attacks this year.

“By the will of God, I have survived that attack which killed other innocent civilians.” He told reporters in Mogadishu.

He declined to confirm he was wounded in the attack.

The Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab group claimed the responsibility for the shooting and the car bomb which left business centres damaged.

Al-shabab continues to carry out attacks against the government and the African union forces protecting it.
