Addis Ababa, 7 October 2014 (WIC) - Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed has urged neighboring countries to exercise caution to prevent Al-Shabaab fighters crossing their borders.

Prime Minister Ahmed said Al-Shabaab fighters were fleeing from the ongoing military offensive against them in Somalia and there was a danger that they might try to cross into Somalia’s neighbors.

The joint Somali National Army and AMISOM offensive has retaken large areas from Al-Shabaab in recent month.

The Somali Prime Minister was speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu along with senior government officials including the Ministers of National Security and of Defense as well as senior military officers.

He said the objective of the military campaign was to completely destroy Al-Shabaab’s power.

He appealed to Somali youth fighting along with Al-Shabaab to take advantage of the 45-day amnesty offered by the Government.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Somali National Army and AMISOM for their recent military successes and the capture of Barawe, from where Al-Shabaab had been organizing its attacks on Mogadishu.
