A member of Somalia’s Federal Parliament Ali Khalif Galayr narrowly escaped arrest by Somaliland military officials who siezed the village of Saax-Dheer early Saturday morning.
The village is about 75 kilometres south west of the city of Las Anod, the capital of Sool region.
The whereabouts of the lawmaker remains yet unknown, although it was confirmed that he managed to escape and he was last seen travelling toward the east; this is according to Aden Abdul Aziz, a resident in the village who spoke to HOL.
The eye witness said that men dressed in the Somaliland military uniforms entered the home of a well known traditional leader Garad Jama Garad Ali.
“They entered Garad’s home and they asked about Mr. Galayr's whereabouts” another eye witness Mahmoud Mohamed told HOL correspondent in the region.
No casualties have been reported, however one civilian was wounded when he was caught in the crossfire of the Somaliland Military and the local militia's brief gun battle.
