The militia raided Kulan Administration Police post at around 18:45 p.m. local time, according to the head of northeastern Criminal Investigation Officer, Musa Yego.
Yego said heavy gunfire ensued and officers were able to repulse the attackers, adding that one officer obtain injuries in the fierce fire exchange that last for over 40 minutes.
“Our officers who have been always alert repulsed the militia who wanted to overrun the security border post taking advantage of the darkness,” he said.
The senior detective said the militia targeted the Kulan border post because of its proximity of less than 20 km from the lawless Somalia border, adding that the attackers fled toward the porous border with security officers in hot pursuit.
