The Jubilee government has been challenged to take bold action and stop the killings pitting two clans in Wajir, the Gare and Degodia.
Speaking at rally in Habaswein, Wajir South Constituency over the weekend, three MPs allied to the opposition Cord said the government has failed to address the merciless bloodletting that has left many dead and displaced thousands.
Matungulu MP Stephen Mule said the government should wake up and put a stop to the inter-clan fighting.
“Which government can just sit down and watch while its people continue to slaughter each other? They should wake up and stop these killings immediately because it is their responsibility,” Mr Mule said.
GUNAN KILLINGS
On Monday 12 people were killed and several others seriously injured after a rocket propelled grenade was thrown into a cave in which they were taking cover at Gunan village.
More than 20 houses were torched in revenge of the Gunan killings.
The government has since said it has deployed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to Wajir County.
Mr Mule challenged local county leaders and the national government to make efforts to reconcile the two warring clans.
“While providing security is the mandate of the national government, still the county government should make efforts to stop this bloodshed because they are the biggest victims," said the Matungulu lawmaker.
ACT DECISIVELY
Wajir South MP Abdullahi Diriye said the government must decisively solve the border problem so as to stop the fight completely.
“The boundaries should be clearly defined. The government should be held responsible for any loss of more lives,” he added.
There was drama when 68 year old Adhan Huka stormed the rally almost interrupting Ndhiwa MP Agostinho Neto who was addressing the crowd.
When the old man was given a chance, he said he has nowhere to go after his house and belongings were torched by angry youth revenging the Gunan attacks.
Mr Huka who is from the Gare clan said he had taken refuge in Habaswein where majority of the people are Ogaden.
The area MP organised a temporary shelter for the old man.
