A vehicle carrying Somali government soldiers hit a landmine on the Afgoye-Mogadishu road on Sunday (January 19th), killing two soldiers and wounding three others, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.

Afgoye Mayor Mahdi Ahmed Hassan confirmed the explosion, saying it was likely caused by a roadside bomb.

Also on Sunday, unknown assailants killed a businessman who was closing his shop in Mogadishu's Huriwa district.

On Saturday night, a 6-year-old girl was killed in Jowhar after unknown assailants threw a grenade towards Somali government soldiers standing near the Bar-yare Bus Terminal in Hawlwadag district, said Ali Mohamed Suqulle, a relative of the deceased girl, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

The attack also injured two civilians, but no government troops were harmed in the attack.

Security forces have made several arrests in connection with the incident. No group has taken responsibility for the attack.
