Somali PM vows to form stronger national army

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister  whose government has not yet been approved by parliament said Tuesday that he was intending to form nearly 30 thousand stronger national army if the parliament has endorsed his newly formed cabinet.

Addressing before parliament on Tuesday Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed also said that his government will prioritise the consolidation of the fight against Al Shabaab in a bid to oust them out of the areas still under their control.

“Al shabaab is a great threat to the country and my government will give more attention to the fight against them, so I request the honourable parliamentarians to give me your full confidence to to my government which I formed with the consultations from lawmakers and the rest of the community” Mr. Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed told the parliamentarians.

“Dear Honourable MPs, I have more confidence in my new cabinet members who are capable of accomplishing their duties well and with your endorsement I am sure we will be able to do more” the Prime Minister said during his address at the parliament.

“If my government attracts your confidence we will weight on so many important issues including: the tightening of security, the stabilisation of the country, the implementation of all inclusive policy, the re-establishment of the governmental institutions and the reformation of the draft national constitution” the Prime minister said in his address at the parliament Tuesday.

Mr. Abdi Weli Sheik Ahmed emphasized that his government was intending to form 28,000 stronger national forces that will be composed of 25,000 infantry, 2,000 air forces and 1,000 marines.
