Somalia lost well known law expert

Somalia is mourning for the death of Ex-lawyer Hassan Sheik Ibrahim popularly known as Hasey who passed away in the US state of Virginia, outside Washington DC early on Sunday morning. The death of the late Hasey was announced by his son Maaweel during an interview with the VAO Somali service on Monday.

“We belong to Allah and we will all return to him, I hereby confirm the death of my father Hassan Sheik Ibrahim who died on Sunday morning at 6 AM local time” Maaweel told VOA adding that the body of the late Hassey will be flown to Somalia where his body will be laid to rest.

“My father has been ailing for a year and half---he was suffering from stroke and he finally died of the long illness” the late Hasey’s son said in an interview with VAO.

The late Hassey served in Somalia as a lawyer who was mostly successful in his cases from 1970s until the fall of Somalia in 1991, according to former diplomat Abdullahi Ahmed Addow and Abdisalan Sheik Hussein who held a number of ministerial posts in Somalia and knew the late Hasey well.

Mr. Hasey was not only a lawyer, he was also one of the country’s most prominent businessmen.  He is survived by a wife and six children, according to his son Maaweel. The body of late Hasey will be flown to his home town of Baidoa
