New Puntland president assumes office

The new President of the Puntland regional state of Somalia Abdi Weli Mohamed Ali Gaas has taken over office from his predecessor Abdirahman Sheik Mohamed Farole during a takeover ceremony at the presidential palace in the provincial capital Garowe on Tuesday.

Former president Abdirahman Faroole who first addressed at the ceremony congratulated his successor on the huge responsibility he has embraced. “I am very happy to hand over the power to my brother Abdi Weli Gaas” Mr Faroole told the ceremony on Tuesday.

The outgoing president also handed over to the new president some documents carrying details about key undergoing development projects in Puntland including the reconstruction of Bosasso and Garowe airports, the construction of Maakhir University and other key projects.

“I wish success for the new president and the rest of his government and, I hope that Allah will make easier for you the giant national tasks ahead of you” the former president noted during take over ceremony on Tuesday.
Mr Faroole urged the people in the Puntland state to show a stronger unity and closely work with the new president to help him accomplish his duties well through the next five years in office.

For his part the new Puntland leader Abdi Weli Mohamed Ali Gaas said that the experience of former president was something very crucial to his government which he said will closely work with Mr. Faroole in a bid to learn from him and follow behind his footsteps.

Mr. Gaas praised the former leadership of Puntland which he said had left behind a complete administration with all governmental infrastructures in place. “I really testify that Puntland has a fully functioning government” the newly elected Puntland regional state president Abdi Weli Gaas told the takeover ceremony on Tuesday.
