Kenya: Garissa County home of the worst performing school

Garissa County is the home of the worst performing school, according to the results released Tuesday.

Alfatah Primary School recorded a mean score of 157 marks out of a possible 500 marks.

It had only 36 candidates, most of who are not likely to join secondary school as the pass mark is 200.

Trailing closely were Mandera and Wajir counties, whose standards of education have remained stagnant over the years.

Mandera’s bottom five schools all had an average score of less than 165.

Worst performing

Tharaka Nithi’s worst performing school was Kaare Primary with a mean score of 214 marks and only had 22 students.

For a county where more than 80 per cent of the population has never seen the inside of a classroom, the bottom five schools in Turkana all managed an average of well over 200.

Kakuma Refugee Camp, Fashoda Refugee Camp and Bhar El Naam Refugee Camp all averaged between 234 and 236 marks.

Nakuru County’s worst performers all recorded mean scores of under 180.

Dundori Primary, with its 115 candidates, had a mean score of 175— same to Ndimu DEB, with 68 candidates.
