Somalia’s prime minister Abdiwli Sheik Ahmed, who is on an official visit to Addis Ababa, is to meet his Ethiopian counterpart, Hailemariam Desalegn on Friday.

Briefing the media upon arrival in Addis Ababa on Thursday, the prime minister said that the main aim of his visit is to discuss with his Ethiopian counterpart key issues, such as security and bilateral relations between the two neighbouring states.

“Somalia and Ethiopia have common interests and will develop their co-operation on different sectors including security in the Horn of Africa region, policy, economic growth and the fight against terrorists to remove terrorism from the region, because Al Shabab is a big threat to the region and the whole world.” He told the media.

The prime minister is accompanied by key ministers that include foreign minister Abdirahman Duale, finance minister Hussein Abdi Halane, information minister Mustaf Sheik Ali Dhuhulow and Transportation and Aviation minister Said Qorshel.

During his stay in Ethiopia the prime minister will meet with officials from the African Union, members from the international community and diplomats from governments that are interested in Somalia.

This is his first diplomatic mission since he officially took office last month. It comes nearly two weeks after Ethiopian forces joined the African Union peace-keeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
