A military court in the semi-autonomous Somali regional state of Puntland has sentenced three men who were found guilty of being linked to the Islamist militant group al-Shabab.

Abdi Fitah Haji Aden, the regional military court chief, announced that Abdirahman Muse Osman has been sentenced to life in prison saying that the court gathered enough evidences to prove that he was involved in terrorist activities.

“The evidences we collected show that Abdirahman Muse Osman was an active member of the terrorist group Al Shabab and the court sentenced him to life imprisonment,” the regional military court chief told the media on Tuesday.

Abdi Hakim Abdullahi was sentenced to a jail term of ten years, while the third man Abdi Hakim Omar Gududow was sentenced to five years of prison. The fourth defendant, Aweys Buule Sadiq, was released after not being found guilty to be involved in any terrorist activities.

Since assuming office as the President of Puntland, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has vowed to fight against lawlessness and insecurity that has been prevalent in the region for many years.
