The Danish government has pledged $3.4 million in aid to support Somalia's military and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops, Minister for Trade and Development Co-operation Mogens Jensen announced Wednesday (August 13th) during a visit to Mogadishu.
"To build a new and peaceful Somalia, it is necessary to improve security," Jensen said. "So we are giving 19 million kroner to the Somali army and the AMISOM forces that play such a critical role in fighting al-Shabaab."
The funds are intended to cover non-combat necessities, including provisions for soldiers, transport, fuel, tents and medical supplies.
Denmark has committed to providing $35.9 million in aid to Somalia annually between 2015 and 2017.
