Leicester, UK (HOL) - The Director of the Fire and Emergency Services department of Mogadishu, Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed Saneey, has ended a two-month long work trip to the UK which was part of his efforts to enlarge his department and skill it up.

In an interview with HOL on Monday Mr Saneey said he was very hopeful that the department will have enough fire engines and ambulances in the near future adding that two more UK cities and charities based in the country pledged some fire engines and ambulances for his department to deliver their crucial services to the inhabitants of Mogadishu.

“Now we have only three fire fighters and 3 ambulances donated to us by the city of Leicester and a charity based in that city, but now we have established contacts with other cities  and we hope to get three other fire fighters and three ambulances before the end of the year” Mr Saneey said hopefully.

The Director of the Emergency services in Somalia’s capital went on to praise the Manchester-based charity Human Appeal and the Yorkshire-based reputable British company manufacturing fire fighting and rescue vehicles and equipments, Angloco for pledging to help his department which currently service only three fire fighters for a city of more than three million people.

“According to our strategic plans we hope to have 110 ambulances and 20 fire engines in the near future” said Mr Saneey who thanked the former Mayor of Leicester Mr. Abdul Osman for making connections between Mogadishu fire and emergency services and some cities and charities in the UK.

“The meeting I have had with Mr. Othman Moqbel, the chief executive officer of Human Appeal was very fruitful and I am grateful to him for making some tangible pledges to us” he continued to say.

Mr. Saneey who has now concluded his work trip is expected to fly back to Mogadishu on Tuesday. He will return to UK sometime in December this year for the second round of talks between him and the authorities of two UK cities who have made pledges of assistance so far.
