The president of the federal republic of Somalia Hassan Sheik Mahmoud has denounced the recent detention of Somali consular by Kenyan forces describing it ‘unacceptable’.

This was the first speech given by the president over the brutal detention since the diplomat Siyad Mahmoud Shire was detained in Nairobi nearly five days ago.

“We are very sorry for the arrest of our diplomat and it was an unfortunate move which is damaging the diplomatic relations between the two countries—we have recalled our ambassador to Kenya and he will explain to us about what happened and as well as the general situation of Somalis in Kenya” President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud said Tuesday.

“The government is still gathering more details about the anti-Somali swoop by Kenyan forces to decide what message to send to Kenyan government” the Somali president noted.

Earlier, Somali parliament speaker and the Prime Minister condemned the detention of the Somali diplomat, but the Kenyan government has not yet listened to the complaints from Somali government’s top officials.

For the past several weeks Kenya arrested nearly 4000 Somalis in the ongoing police swoop, accusing the Somali community of being responsible for bomb attacks in Eastleigh.

Somalis themselves said they were scapegoat and didn’t know about the bomb attacks in the city amid reports that Kenyan racists were involved in the violence to try to draw police attention to the Somali inhabitants in Eastleigh.

It was in mid April when the international media reported that Kenyan police intercepted a Church bishop and his assistant with a live bomb in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighbourhood giving a clear indication that trouble makers in Kenya were coming from around the world including Kenyans themselves.
