Nairobi, Kenya: One of the terror suspects who died in a car explosion outside Pangani Police Station was a former player of a top team at the Kenya Premier League ( KPL). Police also revealed on Sunday that Abdul Hajira, went “missing” from his Nairobi home in 2010. Hajira is a son of a Kenya Defence Force officer based at Kahawa Garisson in Nairobi.
He left the premier league club to start his football club in Majengo slums. Hajira’s father told police his son disappeared for more than a year and resurfaced last year to finish his Bachelor of Commerce degree at University of Nairobi. “His father never gave up in trying to trace him.
We suspect he had gone to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab,” a source told The Standard. Hajira had blocked all his social media networks during the period and caused a lot of anguish to his parents. Following his death, police believe his case is now an eye opener on terror cells in Nairobi.
