The Brussels embassy became the first Somali-owned diplomatic compound in the outside world to be rebuilt since the horn of African country fell into anarchy in January 1991.
“It was weeks ago when we started the reconstruction work of the embassy building and we finally succeeded in our attempts to renovate and make it have the shape of a place that represents an existing nation in the world” Somali ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Mr. Ali Said Fiqi told the president during his visit to the embassy.
President Hassan told the launching ceremony of the embassy that it was a very great honour for his government and the entire Somali people to witness the re-launch of the embassy after reconstruction although there were still some renovation works to be completed.
Ambassador Ali Said Fiqi of Somalia recently presented his credential letters to the king of Belgium becoming the first Somali ambassador from none-transitional government to be welcomed in Brussels for over two decades.
