Firefighters from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are donating
one of their engines to Somalia today, to help the fledgling service
get off the ground.
The Mogadishu Fire and Emergency Services Department is still in its
infancy and this will be only the fourth engine in its fleet.
Chief officer Dave Webb will present his counterpart in Somalia,
Abdulahi Mohamed, today in a ceremony at the Leicestershire headquarters
in Monk Way, Birstall.
Mr Mohamed was living in Leicester until he was recruited to help the
Mogadishu service rebuild itself after falling into ruin during the
civil war between 1991 and 2006.
