Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at the terrorists for attempting to exploit unemployment among the youth in Kenya by recruiting them to join their militant group activities in Somalia.

Terming the doctrine of the terrorists who attacked the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi as primitive, backward and barbaric, Mr Ruto said the government would turn the unemployment problem into an opportunity.

He said the government would work together with the youth to come up with a brigade that will help grow the economy of the country to unprecedented levels.

Speaking at an interdenominational prayer service for the victims of the recent Westgate terror attack also attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre Tuesday, Mr. Ruto pointed out that the belief and philosophy of the terrorists who kill children, women and innocent people cannot be rationalised.

He said their narration that their act of terrorism was committed in the name of religion was unacceptable noting that there is no religion in the world be it Christian, Muslim, Hindu that advocates for violence and killing of innocent people.

“Muslims must be keepers of their Christian brothers likewise Christians must be keepers of their Muslim brothers while terrorists belong to hell,” he said.

The Deputy President said it was unjustifiable for the terrorists to claim their act of terror was prompted by the presence of Kenyan forces in Somalia, noting  indeed  the country had no desire to enter Somalia until the terrorists begun crossing the borders into Kenya exporting  insecurity  from  Somalia and endangering  its citizens and visitors alike.

He said: “Yes our first responsibility is to provide security within the borders but we shall not hesitate to go beyond our borders if threats to our security as a country are emanating outside our country.”

The Deputy President noted that the terror attack had emboldened the Kenyan spirit of unity in diversity, saying no amount of persuasion or terror attack will convince Kenyans to take arms against fellow Kenyans.
