Somali government troops, backed by a
Djiboutian contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia, Monday
(November 25th) took control of Buq Gosar village near Beledweyne from
al-Shabaab, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
Deputy commander of Somali forces in the Hiran region Colonel Mohamed
Aden Aney said three militants were killed in the battle for the
village, which has been under al-Shabaab control for several years.
The military will continue its push into central Somalia with an
assault on al-Shabaab operation centers in the town of Bulo Burde, he
said.
Allied forces in Hiran have intensified operations in the region
since al-Shabaab's attack on a police station in Beledweyne claimed the
lives of dozens of people on November 19th.
