Protest held in London to censure US drone strikes

Pakistani political parties and anti-war activists in London have marched to the door of the British prime minister to stress their anger against the UK government’s involvement in the US-led drone strikes in Pakistan and all around the globe, Press TV reports.

Demonstrators marched from Downing Street, home to Prime Minister David Cameron, to the US embassy in London on Saturday, according to the Press TV correspondent in London.

This comes at a time when the campaign against US-led drone strikes in Pakistan is gaining more strength, with protests being held across the globe.

Pakistan has borne the brunt of the deadly air attacks over the past years.

“It’s important that people around the world demonstrate in solidarity with the people living under drones in Pakistan. It is also very clear that the UK is giving significant support to the US in drone wars. Britain is using drones in Afghanistan, Israel in using drones on Gaza, and the US are using drones in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and all around the globe”, Chris Cole from Dronewars.net told Press TV correspondent.

The report referred to official figures showing that there have been 374 drone strikes in Pakistan from 2004 until September this year. The air strikes have left at least 900 civilians dead and 600 with life-changing injuries. Meanwhile, a UN report has classified these attacks as war crime.

Protesters believed the US airstrikes violate Pakistan sovereignty and create a major obstacle to peace and stability in the country.

“The main reason we are protesting is to bring stability into the country. Drone strikes are creating more militancy and more terrorism in Pakistan. People living in northwest Pakistan are living under constant fear and kids are being traumatized and they cannot live a normal lives any more, which is against human rights and all people need to know this”, said Shahbaz Khan, the president of PTI in London.
