The United Nations will conduct a survey in
Dadaab refugee complex to determine Somali refugees' interest in
returning to their country, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported Tuesday
(November 19th).
The survey was announced following a recent tripartite agreement
between Somalia, Kenya and the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees to assist in the voluntary repatriation of refugees.
There has been pressure among some Kenyan political factions to close
Dadaab due to security concerns. But Dadaab residents and refugee aid
organisations have said Somalia is not yet secure enough for them to
return and that repatriation should be voluntary.
