A Valley mother is speaking out and in desperate search of answers after her 19-year-old daughter was shot and killed after just arriving at a birthday party over the weekend.
Authorities are still investigating why gunfire erupted outside of a large house party near 53rd and Southern avenues Saturday night near Laveen, said Sgt. Trent Crump, spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department.
Nora Osman had just arrived with a couple friends when more than 100 people started running away at the sound of gunshots, said police. Osman was hit by a bullet and later died at a Valley hospital.
"She had just left home," said her mother, Deqa Osman. "It's like I want to wake up. It's a bad dream, but somewhere I know it's not a dream."
The other three victims were an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. All three were transported to local hospitals but are expected to be OK.
Authorities do not have any suspects in custody and are still investigating who may have pulled the trigger or triggers.
For Deqa, this type of tragedy is all too common. Her brother was murdered a few years ago and his killer is still on the loose.
"This is my second murder here in Phoenix. My brother was murdered, too. And his killer is still out there? Yes, and that makes me more mad," she said.
Osman was determined to be a doctor, said her mother. She wanted to make her family proud, even those who are still back in Somalia.
Deqa is praying for justice and hoping authorities catch her daughter's killer soon.
Authorities have not released any suspect descriptions, but ask if anyone has any information to contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness at 1-800-WITNESS.
