Kenyatta Jets Back From London Conference On Somalia

President Uhuru Kenyatta has jetted back in the country from London where he was attending the London Conference on Somalia.

President Kenyatta arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly after 6am on a Kenya Airways flight.

Kenyatta was in London for the Conference on Somalia where he had been invited by UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

However, a press briefing scheduled to take place at the JKIA upon his arrival did not take place.

President Kenyatta – who left on Sunday night with first Lady Margaret Kenyatta – met with the UK Premier before the conference and later on met Kenyans in Diaspora.

The London Conference on Somalia addressed among other things Somalia’s political stability, security and Maritime situation.

The conference also discussed public finance management as well as justice and policing in the troubled Horn of Africa country.

President Kenyatta’s invite came less than four months after the UK High Commissioner to Kenya Christian Turner said that his country would only make essential contacts with President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto following the crimes against humanity cases facing them at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Experts say that the UK would not afford to lock out President Kenyatta out of the conference bearing Kenya’s input in the war against the Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants who have terrorized residents and affected business across the Indian Ocean due to piracy on the sea route.

Kenya has also been very pro-active in fronting for political stability in the troubled Somalia which has not had a formal and stable government for over 22 years.

The Head of State was received by Deputy President William Ruto, Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia and other top government officials.
