UK Foreign Office Director General for
Political Affairs, Simon Gass said on Wednesday (May 1) announced UK's
decision to extend an invitation to President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya so
as to facilitate his attendance at the London Conference on Somalia.
The Director General announced the decision during his discussion
with Ethiopia's State Foreign Minister, Ambassador Berhane Gebre
Christos, in Addis Ababa where they discussed on a number of bilateral
and regional issues with particular emphasis on recent developments in
Somalia and on the preparations for the upcoming London Conference on
Somalia.
Ambassador Gass thanked Ethiopia for its encouragement in inviting
the newly elected President of Kenya, with the country being an
important player in Somalia's current situation. Foreign Minister Dr.
Tedros in his series of engagements with officials of the UN and UK
expressed Ethiopia's belief as the chair of IGAD on the importance to
engage very positively with Kenya over Somalia and has been pushing for
the invitation of President Kenyatta to the London Conference.
