A landmine exploded at a local Qur'anic
school in Heraale town in Somalia's Galgadud region, killing two
children and injuring three, Somalia's RBC Radio reported on Sunday
(March 24th).
"The incident happened late yesterday evening and caused a lot of
problems to the young children," said Heraale Commissioner Bashir Dahir
Yussuf. "Incidences like these have recurred several times in the
Heraale area because explosives are everywhere in the region, causing
deaths of residents each time and explosive goes off."
Yussuf called on the Somali government and its non-governmental
partners to clear the region of mines left over from the 1977-1978 war
between Somalia and Ethiopia.
