Galgadud regional authorities on Monday
(March 18th) arrested nine people for illegal possession of firearms,
UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
The suspects were arrested in the Marer Gur, Ina Mad and Gadon
villages and will soon be charged in court with breaking regional
regulations, said Dusamareb security boss Farhan Moalim Ali.
Ali said the crackdown on illegal gun ownership will continue and
urged locals to support the administration's security mission by
adhering to the ban.
The Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa administration in Dusamareb outlawed all
unlicensed firearms in December and instituted a requirement that all
gun owners register their weapons with the administration, including aid
agencies' guards.
