Somalia’s leaders congratulate Uhuru Kenyatta
Sunday, March 10, 2013(HOL) - The president of Somalia Hassan Shiekh Mohamud congratulated Kenyan President-elect, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta on his victory in Monday’s presidential election.
Kenyatta was declared winner in Nairobi by the country’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Ahmed Isack Hassan.
President Hassan urged other presidential contenders to respect the will of the Kenyan people and the outcome of the election.
He hailed the Kenyan people by voting in large numbers and casting their votes peacefully.
“The Somali government and its people congratulate Kenyan president-elect and we are commited to continue our strong relations with Kenya” said in a statement released by the Somali president.
“We believe that the Kenyans will react in peacefull manner to the announcement of the final results, we don’t want to see the repeat of what happened in the previous elections” he added.
The prime minister of Somalia Abdi Farah Shirdon also congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta and commended the ordinary people of Kenya who showed their undying faith in democratic governance by turning out in their millions to set a new voter turn-out record of 86 per cent in Monday’s elections.
The prime minister assured Kenyan President-elect of the best wishes of the government and people of Somalia.
