Lessons learnt at Sharjah forum being implemented in Somalia, says official

We are implementing in Somalia what we learnt from the Sharjah Government Communication Forum 2013 to strengthen communication between parliamentarians and citizens throughout the country.

This was stated by Dr Mohamed Nureni Bakar, member of parliament in Somalia, who is also a member of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs and international relations, in an exclusive interview with The Gulf Today recently.

He was one of the participants from around the world at the two-day forum that concluded last week.

“Since August 2012, Somalia is no longer a transitional state, but a politically operational government and has been recognised by a large number of countries as well as the USA.

“After the closure of international embassies in Mogadishu for two decades, the revival of many foreign missions started and the work on the UAE embassy is under way and soon it will be operational,” he added.

Dr Bakar expressed his gratitude to the UAE government and the Rulers of all seven emirates in general and His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah in particular for their support to African countries.

“We are grateful to the Sharjah Ruler for his guidance to the Muslim Ummah and the Arab and African countries,” he said.

“During the two-day forum, we have learnt a lot through communication between the government and the citizens. This concept is a powerful strategy to address conflicts in any country,” he added.

He said that the communication he had exchanged during the forum showed the policy of two-way communication between the leaders of the country and the citizens.

Responding to a question related to Somali pirates, Dr Bakar said that the current government, under the dynamic leadership of Professor Hassan Sheikh Mohammad, president of Somalia, is working to strengthen the judicial system and develop infrastructure to eradicate piracy and terrorism.
