Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who
is on a visit to Qatar met the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,
on Monday (March 4th) for talks on strengthening Somali-Qatar bilateral
relations as well as discussing regional and international affairs.
The Emir later hosted a lunch for President Mahmoud who described
relations between the two countries as strong. Talking to the Qatar News
Agency later, the Somali President praised the role Qatar is playing in
regional and international politics. He said Somalia wanted to make use
of Qatar's expertise in reaching national reconciliation, adding that
the people and government of Somalia have complete faith in Qatar's
ability to help them in this aim.
A joint Qatar-Somalia committee convened several weeks ago in Doha at
the invitation of the Qatari Foreign Ministry. The committee is to
provide recommendations on ways to support the education and health
sectors in Somalia. The Somali President noted that finding ways to
encourage the rebuilding Somalia was one of the priorities of his visit
to Qatar.
