Police in Kismayo removed two landmines along Umbulutoria Road Saturday (June 22nd), UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported. Kismayo police boss Mohamed Abdi Bulle Sugow accused al-Shabaab of planting the mines. He thanked local residents for the tip-off and encouraged continued co-operation with security forces.
In a separate incident Saturday, Somali troops backed by Kenyan forces removed an improvised explosive device from a main road near the large Haji Jama mosque, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
Earlier last week, a roadside bomb exploded in Kismayo's Alanley neighbourhood, damaging a vehicle belonging to an African Union Mission in Somalia convoy, Bar-Kulan reported.
