The directors of Liberty Shipping are shocked and disappointed at the unethical and malicious onslaught conducted by Shabelle Media Network (Shabelle News) in the successive articles of June 11th 2013 and July 4th 2013 against Liberty Shipping.

These articles were allegedly furious about Iranian companies operating in Mogadishu Port. One genuine mistake and confusion of facts by the media network is acceptable (after an apology of course) but this insistance on falsehood and propaganda is alarming.

The june 11th article stated that Liberty Shipping Ltd is a sister company for Simatech Shipping LLC , which is far from the truth and has no basis whatsoever. The July 4th article further stated that Simatech is working in conjunction with Liberty Shipping Ltd. All these are propaganda and they are covertly packaged as credible news to mislead the public and the reason behind this could be nothing short of some political, partisan, business or commercial agenda.

While the leadership of Liberty shipping respects other company‘s rights to work in Somalia provided that they comply with the local laws, again it would be libelous and irresponsible of Shabelle Media Network or other media houses to propagate lies and to connect us with people that we don’t work with, and to depict and drape us in falsehood as to the ownership of our company. We are not in any way negating the freedom of the press, but when it crosses its boundaries and turns into a tool for propaganda then there are serious ethical, legal and moral issues involved.

As such we hereby wish to inform one and all and to set the record straight that Liberty Shipping is owned by a group of Somali businessmen from diverse backgrounds and regions, and who are united for the sole purpose of providing the much needed shipping services in the country. These are activities that should be well received as they contribute to the rebuilding of the country and the National growth and economy. We are not in any way related with Simatech or any individual that chairs or owns Simatech group and we comply fully with the local laws and regulations.
