Cey-Nor vessel exported to Somalia

A dual power fishing vessel named Sashimi produced by Cey-Nor Foundation was exported to Somalia on Monday.

Cey-Nor produced this vessel which has all modern techniques and technologies.

The vessel can be either operated by engine or wind power. It also helps reduce fuel costs as well. This vessel has facilities for fishing, sources said.

Nedsome Foundation, an institution in Somalia are the buyers of the fishing vessel.

Another four orders have been made by a private buyer in Somalia.

Participating in the event, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said Sri Lanka also received several orders for boats from Seychelles due to the development of technology in the country with the end of the terrorism. The Cey-Nor Foundation spent Rs 14.5 million for the boat.

"The production cost of fisheries vessels is very high. Vessels like this, which can be operated by both engine and wind power, will help reduce production costs," Minister Senarathne said.

"We are also planning to use fishing vessels like this in the Sri Lankan fisheries sector to reduce accidents in the sea and develop the Sri Lankan fisheries sector with modern technology," he said.

Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation (CFHC) chairman Upali Liyanage, Managing Director Lal Samarasinghe, Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (CFC) chairman Maheel Senaratne and members of Nedsome Foundation were also present.
