Security forces detained 217 suspects in a major security crackdown in Mogadishu.

Security officials say they intend to get rid of armed militants in the capital which is reviving after decades of civil war.

“We have arrested 217 suspects, , 18 still remain in custody for allegedly having links with Alshabab, others were released” said the National security chief Khalif Ahmed Ereg.

“We have carried out these operations in Hamar-jajab and Hamar-weyne districts” he added.

Police has intensified it’s operations in the past few months which has led to the arrest of hundreds of suspected militants.

Somali government says It will continue such operations until peace and order are restored in the capital, Mogadishu.
