An estimated Ksh.50 million worth of contraband goods were destroyed by police in Garissa County on Saturday morning. The goods which were on transit from Somalia to Nairobi were impounded in Daadab.
The
goods loaded in four trucks included assorted caches of sugar, clothes,
powder milk, shoes, carpets, electronics and children toys.
Speaking
during the destruction process carried out at the Garissa dump site,
Garissa County police commander Charles Kinyua said the destruction was
carried out following a court order issued earlier in the week by a
Garissa court.
He said the goods had been intercepted and impounded by police officers manning the Liboi border crossing.
Kinyua
also urged the residents to support the local market by using locally
manufactured products so as to build the country’s economy.
