THE Council for East and Central African
Football Association (Cecafa) has awarded Kenya the hosting rights for
the 2013 Senior Challenge Cup.
According to Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, regional
annual tournament is scheduled to take place from November 24 to
December 8 in Nairobi.
During the Cecafa congress held in Kampala, Uganda, last year Rwanda
and Kenya were picked as potential hosts. But the Rwanda FA opted to
host next year's event as a dress rehearsal for the 2016 CHAN
competition.
This week, Kenyan football authorities confirmed their readiness to
host the event. The last time Kenya hosted the championship was in 2009
but attendances were depressingly low and Rwanda lost in the final to
Uganda.
"We're now trying to get a big sponsor for the event and hopefully we
shall have one before the end of next month," Musonye said on Thursday,
Countries expected to participate include Tanzania, Zanzibar,
Burundi, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi,
Ethiopia, Rwanda, defending champions Uganda and Kenya.
