An international rights body has claimed the government is deliberately attempting to undermine key reforms in the police force.

Amnesty International, in a report released on Tuesday, said there were attempts by the Kenyan government to water down some major reforms expected in the police force.

Deputy Director for Africa Sarah Jackson said the transformations set to regulate the country’s police force will allow human rights violations to continue and police to act with impunity.

The group is raising the alarm at a time when amendments to the police reform package that was originally introduced to ensure acts of human rights violations by the police during the 2007/2008 post-election violence are never repeated is set to be debated in Parliament.
