The French government on Monday strongly condemned the assassination of another Somali journalist, confirming an ongoing pattern of attacks that has made Somalia one of the most dangerous places in the world for the working press.

Fifty radio, TV and written press correspondents have been killed in Somalia in the past two decades or so, according to the International Committee to Project Journalists and in 2012, Reporters Without Borders designated Somalia as the most deadly place for journalists to work after 18 press professionals died there.

Syria was also described as one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists.
The latest Somali victim, the fifth so far in 2013, was Mohammed Ibrahim Rageh, a TV journalist with National Television in Somalia, who was gunned down as he left his home in the capital, Mogadishu.

"France calls on the Somali authorities to do everything to identify, pursue and bring to justice the perpetrators of this crime," a statement said here.
Paris also urged measures are taken to allow journalists to freely do their jobs in secure conditions.
