Kenyan Police deny negotiating with MRC
Thursday, April 04, 2013

Police Spokesman Charles Owino has dismissed claims that the police service is negotiating with the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council.

According to Owino the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo issued a directive to the MRC members to surrender to security officers for the safety of the Country.

He has further absolved the police force of blame after allegations of security officers using excessive force in Nyanza and Kawangware after the Supreme Court ruling saying it is the duty of the force to maintain law and order.

He however says investigations into the allegations are ongoing and called upon members of the public to help security officers with information.

Last week, six suspected members of the Mombasa Republican Council were gunned down by police in a dawn attack following a raid at a Casino in Malindi town.

A police officer deployed to guard the Casino died during the shootout while several other officers were injured.
