The Muslim Society of P.E.I. will cover the $1,400 heating bill of a Somali woman.

The Muslim Society of P.E.I. says it will cover the $1,400 oil bill of a Somali woman who was in danger of running out of oil with winter just around the corner.

Ubah Ali is a single mother of seven children who lives in Charlottetown and can't get any more oil until the bill is paid off.

"The Muslim Sociey of P.E.I. at the Friday congregation prayer today made an announcement with regards to the situation of this lady who has an outstanding heating bill which I believe was $1,400 plus a tank full of oil for her and her family," said Zain Esseghaier, a spokesperson for the Muslim Society.

First Baptist Church in Charlottetown had planned to hold a yard sale on Saturday to raise money to pay off the bill. They still plan to go ahead with the sale to help pay for some of the family's oil expenses for the coming year.

Ali said she is very touched by the kindness being shown to her family.

"That's kind. Very very very kind and wonderful," said Ali. "So I'm saying thank you. I'm really, really, really happy, and I was praying to get that.

Ali and her family immigrated to Canada three years ago.

The yard sale starts at the church Saturday at 8 p.m.
