Somali pirates opened fire on the flagship of the NATO naval group off the coast of Somalia. The pirates attacked the Dutch frigate "Rotterdam" according to a report from the Commander of the NATO naval operation to combat piracy "Ocean Shield", Rear Admiral Ben Bekkereng.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during an inspection of a suspicious light motor equipped sail boat.
As soon as the "Rotterdam" boarding group were in an inflatable boat, the crew opened fire and tried to escape.
During the shooting one of pirates was killed. 25 pirates were detained.
