KAMPALA -Former Dynamos and Zimbabwe national team defender Guthrie Zhokinyi has banned for life for his role in match-fixing matches during the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Kenya in 2009.

The Zimbabwe football authorities broadened their match-fixing scandal investigations in the team’s participation in the tournament.

This was after some players admitted taking money to lose games on the national team tours to Asia between 2007 and 2009.

Zimbabwe was a guest team and put in Group B with Rwanda, Eritrea and Somalia. They finished third in the group with four points advancing to the last eight after beating Somalia 2-0, drawing with Eritrea 0-0 and going down 1-0 to Rwanda. In the quarter finals they were humbled by Rwanda 4-1.

Zhokinyi captained the national side during the tourney and was instrumental in negotiating for money to fix matches.
