DETECTIVES are looking for a son of the slain Muslim cleric Aboud Rogo who has sneaked into the country from Somalia. Highly placed intelligence reports indicate that the 17-year-old, an explosives expert, is among suspects plotting a major retaliatory attack in Mombasa.

Head of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit Boniface Mwaniki said Aboud Rogo's other son, arrested on Tuesday in Kinamai, Kilifi, is a Muslim fighter. Speaking to the Star on the phone, Mwaniki said the 17-year-old returned from Somalia recently.

He said the son joined the al Shabaab militia with his late father. "We have information that he is a trained fighter with skills of handling highly sophisticated weapons and making improvised explosive devices. He went to Somalia in 2009 with his father and joined al Shabaab militia in Somalia where they underwent paramilitary training," Mwaniki said on Friday.

The two Rogo sons have allegedly returned to avenge their father's death. Rogo was killed by unknown assailants near the Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach in Mombasa in September. Police sources say the two have been in contact with his father's allies and are possibly mobilising more youths to join the al Shabaab terror group.
