Two people were injured on Tuesday when attackers hurled an explosive device into a garage in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The unidentified attackers threw an improvised explosive device (IED) into the car care centre next to a bridge in Biafra at 7.15am. The impact ripped off part of the centre’s wall.

One of the victims, Mr John Mutisya, 23, told the Nation that he was crossing the bridge headed to Jogoo Road when he heard a loud blast followed by smoke.

“I did not see anyone at all and I realised I was bleeding from the left side of my face,” said Mr Mutisya, a casual worker in Industrial Area.

Rushed to the scene

Another victim, Mr Peter Munyoki, 45, also did not see anyone at the scene of the explosion.

Nairobi police operations officer Wilfred Mbithi said they had neither identified the attackers nor established the motive of the attack by last evening.

Bomb experts rushed to scene and collected samples for analysis.

Mr Mbithi said that judging from the impact, the device was powerful.

A series of grenade attacks has rocked the country since the Kenya Defence Forces troops entered Somalia to hunt down Al-Shabaab in October last year.

Police have blamed the attacks on sympathisers of the rag tag militia.

Eastleigh and Garissa are among the urban areas that have borne the brunt of the attacks in the recent past.

On Sunday, a grenade was lobbed into a church within an Administration Police camp in Garissa, where a police officer was killed and scores of people injured.

On Monday night, a man was arrested after engaging police in a shoot-out in the city centre.
