RICHLAND, Wash.-- A refugee family from Somalia will soon have their very first home.
Tuesday, the Farah family took a shovel to the dirt to mark the beginning of construction. The family applied for the Richland home through a non-profit called First Story. The charity was founded by Hayden Home Builders and focuses on giving affordable housing opportunities to low-income families. Bile Farah feels a sense of accomplishment reaching the milestone of home ownership.
"Applying for a home and winning that home creates a situation where we feel like we achieved something in this short period of time we've lived in the USA," says Farah.
First Story awards a home to one family in the Tri-Cities every year.
