Two people accused of engaging in organised terrorists activities stunned the court Tuesday by claiming that armed men had attempted to abduct them.

Aboud Rogo Mohammed and Abubakar Sharif Ahmed told principle magistrate Paul Biwot that immediately they arrived in Nairobi from Mombasa, a group of about eight to ten armed men attempted to abduct them at gunpoint.

They said that they were forced to struggle with the abductors and it was only through the help of members of the public that they managed to free themselves.

Through lawyer Mbugua Mureithi, the accused claimed that they feared for their lives after the incident and asked the court to transfer the matter to a Mombasa court for the sake of their security.

“A person well known to the accused and who was charged with a similar offence underwent the same ordeal before he was extra judicially killed. The accused are apprehensive that the same fate might befall them,” said Mureithi.

Mr Mureithi told the magistrate that the accused through the support of the public managed to arrest two of the alleged abductors and handed them to the police when they reported the incident at Kamukunji Police Station.
