Women officials across Somalia gathered in Garowe on Thursday (July 19th) at the Puntland Development and Research Center to discuss their role in the proposed federal government, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Faroole opened the conference, which was attended by female officials from Galmudug, Hiiraan and Himan and Heeb regions, as well as representatives from Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa and the United Nations.
Minister of Women and Family Affairs Asho Gelle also attended the meeting, where she thanked delegates for coming to discuss the constitution, which provides a 30% allocation of parliamentary seats for women.
"This article in the constitution will empower women to have a voice in the policies and development of Somalia," Faroole said.
