President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Government of the United
States of America for its assistance in efforts to restore security in
Somalia.The President made the commendation this morning during a meeting with the visiting US Deputy Secretary of State Mr. William Burns at State House, Nakasero.
Mr. Museveni stressed that the major task today is to assist the people of Somalia to chase away the terrorists from their ports, airports and centres of communication.
Ambassador Burns saluted Uganda’s leading role in the peace process in Somalia and the Sudan. He saluted President Museveni and the government of Uganda for fighting the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) adding that the US identifies closely with President Museveni in that struggle.
The Meeting was attended, among others, by the Defence Minister, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Asuman Kiyingi and the American Ambassador to Uganda Mr. Jerry Lanier.
