The Severomorsk anti-submarine ship from the Russian Northern Fleet in January will join a tactical unit of the Pacific Fleet ships, which is to start performing an anti-piracy mission near the Somali coast within the next few days, a Russian Navy Main Staff spokesperson told Interfax-AVN on Saturday.
"The Pacific Fleet unit led by the Marshal Shaposhnikov anti-submarine ship will arrive in the planned area of the Gulf of Aden at the beginning of next week to start an anti-piracy mission. The Northern Fleet's Severomorsk anti-submarine ship will depart in late December to reinforce the tactical unit, which it should join in mid-January," the spokesperson said.
The Severomorsk has already started preparations for the mission, he said.
